Upper Division Classical Ballet Program
Dancers continue their instruction in the components of the Vaganova syllabus in the Upper Division. Full time Upper Division dancers are expected to perform in the Theatre's 2 major productions each year. Dancers who qualify to train in the Upper Division but choose not to perform may train at the Advanced or Intermediate level on a part time basis. Dancers must take a minimum of three classes per week to take class on pointe.
Upper Division students are required to train for a minimum of 5 weeks during the summer at either the Classical Ballet Theatre or a professional company summer program. Students must notify the office if training elsewhere. CBT will contact all training programs to verify attendance. Dancers are also required to take at least one week of CBT Repertory Camp. Summer training is mandatory for participation in our annual Nutcracker production.
New students with prior ballet training must contact our Administrator to arrange for an audition class with the Artistic Director to determine class placement.
Students are promoted to the next level of study when they have successfully mastered the technical vocabulary of their current level. In May/June students present an annual exam for the entire faculty to determine class placement for the following year. Students are most successful if they participate in all of the recommended classes for their level of study.
