Upper Division

Upper division classes challenge emerging artists with the increased rigors of classical Vaganova training, emphasizing turnout, flexibility, strength, coordination, musicality and pointe work for the female students and aerial work for the young men.

Upper Division dancers are invited to join the Classical Ballet Theatre's Junior and Senior Company. Classical Ballet Theatre Academy Upper Division students train at some of the most prestigious summer programs in the country.

Upper Division students are required to train for a minimum of 5 weeks during the summer at either the Classical Ballet Theatre or a professional company's summer program. Students must notify the office if training elsewhere. CBT will contact all training programs to verify attendance. They are also required to take at least one week of CBT Choreography Camp. Summer training is mandatory for participation in our annual Nutcracker production. Upper Division dancers are also expected to perform in the Theatre's 2 major productions each year. Dancers who qualify to take class in the Upper Division who choose not perform may take classes at the Intermediate level or below.

Intermediate

Basic Pointe work is emphasized in each class as students continue to focus on core work, strength, flexibility, aplomb and artistry.

Class Requirements for Intermediate (see schedule for day/time):

Intermediate may take unlimited classes but are required to take the following:

  • 3 Intermediate Technique
  • Modern, Hip Hop/Jazz and Yoga are optional
  • Junior Company
  • Specialty classes (Flamenco & Broadway Ballet) may be added for a nominal fee.
  • Contemporary Company (by invitation)

Advanced

Pointe work, intricate footwork, attention to detail and technical challenges increase. Advanced students are encouraged to take unlimited classes above and beyond those required at their level.

Advanced may take unlimited classes but are required to take the following:

  • 4 Advanced Technique
  • 1 Advanced Pointe
  • Senior Company
  • Modern, Hip Hop/Jazz and Yoga are optional
  • Contemporary Company (by invitation)

Junior and Senior Company Classes

The Classical Ballet Theatre Company Classes are composed of dancers selected by the Artistic Staff.

Pre-Professional Program

Upper DivisionA very small group of emerging artists are invited in to this class in order to train for a professional career, with our esteemed faculty, under the direction of our Artistic director, Alisher Saburov. Entrance is by audition only. Participants sign a contract, commit to the program and attend all classes and rehearsals. Participants of this level perform the majority of leading roles for the Classical Ballet Theatre.

Pre-Professional may take unlimited classes but are required to take the following:

  • 4 Pre-Professional Technique
  • 1 Pre-Professional Pointe
  • Senior Company
  • Saturday Conditioning Class
  • Modern, Hip Hop/Jazz and Yoga are optional
  • Specialty classes (Flamenco & Broadway Ballet) may be added for a nominal fee.
  • Contemporary Company (by invitation)
