Founded in 1991 by Cynthia Donavin, the Classical Ballet Theatre Academy is the official ballet school of the Classical Ballet Theatre. The CBT Academy provides the highest caliber of training and coaching opportunities to prepare young dancers for a career in the performing arts as well as to provide classes for dancers of all ages and levels in the community. The faculty strives to ensure that each student becomes the best he or she can be with individualized programming if necessary.
The CBT Academy program puts deliberate emphasis on pre professional achievement with each level designed to provide the most comprehensive training and coaching opportunities in order to produce the high quality dancer that CBT is known for. The Academy is divided into 4 areas of study: the Children's Division, the Lower Division, the Upper Division and the Pre Professional Program. Each area has, at its core, a codified syllabus designed to facilitate the maximum physical, mental and emotional development appropriate to the age and physical ability of each student.
Once a student enters the Lower Division, the strenuous training of the art of ballet begins. While the benefits of this training are all inclusive, the Academy's focus is to provide what is necessary for a professional career in the performing arts. The Academy provides a quality dance education with the word "education" viewed in its broadest sense. Students develop skills associated with academic success including self-discipline, self-confidence and the ability to concentrate and collaborate. Our students recognize the importance of process and quality of work, while at the same time setting high standards for themselves in all areas.
